A similar departure from Mannheim was made in 2001, when Veronika and Stephan suggested that I make a trip to Munich, back in Bavaria! Munich is about one and a half hour away from Regensburg by train, and I couldn't believe that I was in Bavaria and neglected to visit its capital! Anyway, Stacey said she would gladly show me the sights and take me out on a
shopping trip. Anyhow, we saw das Rathaus (city hall) in Marienplatz, Frauenkirche,
Peterskirche, and we made a quick detour in Viktualienmarkt,
Besides the food stalls in Viktualienmarkt, selling exoctic fruits and vegetables (and also your not-so-exotic foods like potatoes), there are a multitude of statues, which were erected in memory of musicians, actors, and artists in Germany. I thought Liesl was quite attractive. (Liesl Karlstadt was Karl Oh, and we saw a giant lobster in Viktuelienmarkt. Aaron and Stacey tried to
show me where the Hofbrau Haus was, but we got lost and gave up. We went to a museum
instead.
It was a very unusual museum (Zentrum für aussergewöhnliche Museen) that houses the world's largest collection of chamber pots, Easter Bunnies, and Kiddie Cars (pedal cars). It's fun and if you have time and are really sick of seeing only the art museums, this is a nice deviation from the norm. I then went to the western part of Germany to sightsee some more. Come along and see where I went... |
